Way back in 1978 the band we recognise today as one of the most influential in the history of Heavy metal was conceived in the London area of England.

Revolving around the nucleus of Alan and Terry Jones, they gathered around them a group of like minded individuals willing to help create some of the heaviest metal ever to be envisioned by mortal men. Like their contempories in DESOLATION ANGELS, or APOCALYPSE (Strangely an axis of ultra heavy bands in the South) PAGAN ALTAR were unjustly ignored by the idiotic metal press ran by public school arseholes. Their style was simply too groundbreaking for the time.

Despite many years of setbecks, and all the tribulation associated with playing in a band, PAGAN ALTAR finally issued the "JUDGEMENT OF THE DEAD" demo as an official CD entitled "VOLUME ONE" in 1998 to combat the bootlegging activities of MARSHALL LEVY of DOOM records (A rather nasty little parasite who had been making a profit for years from the band without ever paying a penny in royalties). Encouraged by the success, they set about recording their eargerly awaited follow up "THE LORDS OF HYPOCRISY", or rather re-recording due to the original mastertapes degrading over the years and issuing it themselves in 2004.
